Consider then, the idea of the work of art as an essay that gives voice – often a ventriloquist’s voice and form – to a project.’

Art & Language make this assertion in the statement ‘five edited extracts’ which kick starts the online forum, art and criticality.

We invite contributors to read Art & Language’s statement and add to the discussion by submitting a short text of not more than 1000 words. These responses might refer directly to Art & Languages statement or reflect on the role of criticality in art practice. The responses might also consider the function of criticism, and reflect on what is the work that we want the artwork to do.

Submitted texts will be made available on this website and used, alongside presentations, as a basis for discussion at the Symposium on 4 December.
